Matt graduated from Davidson College, with honors, in 1997 and earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2000. While in law school, he served as a Notes Editor for the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law. His Note, “The Right of Revolution: Black Trade Unions, Workplace Forums, and the Struggle for Democracy in South Africa,” was published in the Journal’s Summer 2000 volume.
Since graduation, Matt has represented both individual and corporate clients in federal and state courts throughout the country. He is experienced in a wide array of civil litigation practice areas, including professional liability defense, product liability defense, employment litigation defense, contract breach, securities fraud, restrictive covenant disputes, secured lending, and appellate practice. In addition, he is admitted by the Supreme Court of Georgia as a Mentor for new lawyers participating in the State Bar of Georgia's Transition into Law Program.
Matt joined the Weathington Firm in 2007 in order to return to a practice area he loves: defending physicians and other medical providers. At the same time, he continues to represent individuals and companies in various business litigation matters. He is admitted to practice in all Georgia trial courts, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Georgia, Middle District of Georgia, and Northern District of Florida.
Matt resides in Newnan, Georgia, with his wife, Cindy, and his son, Everett.
